How to do Jal Neti Kriya and its Benefits?

As we all know the wonders that Yoga practice can have on our body, Jal Neti Kriya is just one of the marvels that Yogis used to stay free from diseases. It requires breath movements to clear any blockages that must have gotten stuck in the nasal passage or respiratory tract. So, just like brushing and flossing are for dental hygiene, Jal Neti Kriya is performed for nasal hygiene.

Simple and Easy ways to perform Jal Neti Kriya

For performing Jal Neti Kriya, you will require a special pot, also known as the Neti lota or neti pot. Make sure the diameter of the spot end of the nozzle is not wide enough and fits in your nose comfortably such that no water leaks out. For the mixture in the pot, you will require some salt and water in the proportion of one tablespoon of water per half a litter of water. If you experience Jal Neti side effects, that may be because you must have added extra salt to your water that might give you a burning sensation, or you are performing the wrong procedure, or there might be some other underlying issues.

Precautions to take before performing Jal Neti Kriya

There are some precautions listed below that must be taken.

• After the process is over; the nose must be adequately dried.

• People who suffer from high blood pressure must practice this process carefully.

• It would help if you did not leave behind any water in the nose as that may create an infection.

Moreover, Jal Neti Kriya is divided into two stages. Let us discuss them.

Stage 1: Wash the nostrils

• Firstly, start with filling the pot with salt and water.

• Then, stand straight with legs wide apart.

• Tilt your head to one side and slowly raise your chin upwards and your head backward.

• Continue breathing with your mouth while you place the nozzle in your upper nostril.

• Keep pressing the nozzle of the pot to avoid water leakage but carefully and slowly.

• Now, slightly tilt the Neti pot such that the saltwater mixture runs into your nostrils and not your face.

• Then, adjust the position of your body such that the saltwater passes through the other nostril.

• You can remove the nostril once half of the saltwater has already passed through your nose. • You can let the remaining salt water in your nose pass out of your nostrils.

• Gently blow your nose to get rid of any mucus. Next, you should tilt your head to the other side and do repeat the entire process

• You must be feeling a dry nose, but that is normal.

Stage 2: Dry the nostrils

• For drying your nose, stand straight and close one side of your nose while you keep breathing from the other. Then, breathe in and out quickly and repeat the same process for the other nose

• You can stand straight and bend forward from your waist, close your nostril, and tilt your head to that side. Then, keep breathing from the other nose quickly and repeat the process with the other nose. The entire Jal Neti technique has been mentioned above with properly ordered instructions.

Follow the steps mentioned above for a healthy kick-start to your Jal Neti Kriya regime.
